We've let this blog go for way too long - sorry about that.  I'm updating everything on here to reflect our current calendar, and meeting place.

We are having a new website designed right now, and it will be combined with this blog into one website.

As soon as we have that up and running, we'll let you know.  Can't wait for you to see our cute header!

Our next support meeting is TONIGHT - at 7:00 pm at our new address:
The Orem Senior Friendship Center at  93 N 400 E, Orem, UT 84097.

SEPTEMBER 7TH - FREE Spa Day for Survivors

Lifting Hearts and Walmart are hosting a FREE Spa Day for Survivors THIS Saturday, the 7th of September, from 8-12.  It's in the Riverton Community Center: 12830 S. Redwood Rd. Riverton.  (We are sorry about holding this so far away, but the 2 Walmart stores that will be helping are Riverton and Sandy, so we needed to be closer to them.  Plus, we are inviting survivors from all over Utah and this is a more central location.)

Directions:  Take I-15 north to the 123rd South Exit.  Get off the freeway, and head west until you get to Redwood Road.  Turn left at the light (south), and the city buildings are not even 1/2 mile away.  You'll see the pink balloons.  We will be in the Community Center, which is the building right behind the front city building.

It's really important that we have as many survivors there as possible, because this is a BIG fundraiser for Lifting Hearts.  It's FREE for survivors - all you have to do is show up and get pampered.  That's it!  But, it's important that we DO show up so that Walmart will remain excited to help us out each year.  So, please do come.

We will be offering manicures and pedicures, done by Mandalyn Academy.  Massage/aromatherapy done by Taylor Andrews Academy.  We'll also be offering facials and hair styling.

I'm excited to tell you that we have a yoga guru, Ramdas Ormond, who will be offering 3 different classes: 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30, along with a guided meditation class at 11:30.  No need to bring mats.  He will be teaching breathing and relaxation techniques, and some gentle yoga moves for strengthening upper body.

On top of all that, there will be food, door prizes, and each survivor will be taking home 2 nice gifts.

We'd love to have your support - EASIEST fundraiser you've ever attended, right?  All we ask is that you show up, and be pampered.  Wow!

THURSDAY THOUGHTS - This Man Is My Father

Some thirty years ago, my life was really in a rough patch. My marriage was on rocky ground and despite much effort to save it, I knew the downward spiral was going to end in divorce. This was before the days of cell phones (seems Neanderthal doesn't it?) Long distance calls were expensive and every one showed up on the bill. I didn't want my husband to see lots of calls home to Utah. My dad had a WATS line at work so he could call me any time without incurring cost on his end. Oh how those calls lifted my spirits! I could let down and tell him what was really going on; not keep up the facade like I did with everyone else.

During this time I wrote a song to honor my father and this past Father's Day I sang it to him at our church. What a proud moment that was! I want to share the lyrics of this song because I think it expresses the feelings that many of us have about our fathers. they are and always will be our heroes.

THIS MAN IS MY FATHER

In the midst of my work load
My mind all a whirl
My thoughts wander back
To when I was a girl

When I got discouraged
Or when I felt sad
I found comfort and solace
In the arms of my dad

At times he was loving
At times he was stern
But I knew in my heart
He was filled with concern

A man of few words
But much feeling inside
I was proudest of all
When I stood by his side

This man is my father
This man is my friend
His love I will cherish
Until the end

Though he won't always be here
Some day he'll be gone
But his memory, our memories
Will love on and on

And still there are times
When I feel so alone
My heart fills with joy
When he calls on the phone

Yes I still get discouraged
And sometimes feel sad
But my spirits still soar
When I hear from my dad

This man is my father
This man is my friend
His love I will cherish
Until the end

Though he won't always be here
Someday he'll be gone
But his memory, our memories
Will live on and on
